An individual who laced candy with tranquilliser and distributed them to children at a summer program in the region has admitted sexual offences against two young males aged between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight children and an older person fell ill at the location in the summer month.
The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he disputed a single sexual charge he was facing, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.
The defendant was held in detention before a further hearing on November 28th.
'Sweet game'
The prosecutor, presenting evidence, detailed the criminal behavior to the judicial body.
She stated his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer camp which he managed.
The man conducted a "candy game" with the minors, the prosecutor stated, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were settling down and ask them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".
She told the court Ruben had conducted this practice with the children "for many years", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the next day.
She stated the man had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had concerns in July 2025.
The prosecutor added: "Recently" his family member had suspicions about the activities, for good reason.
"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."
The legal counsel said objects including lubricant, ointment and syringes were found, and his stepchild notified the law enforcement about his concerns.
She said the man proceeded to play the "sweet game" with six boys that evening - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"The police had not gone out by that stage," she added.
The police watchdog, the investigative body, had stated that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
Mrs Prior explained the children were struggling to walk due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson contacted the law enforcement again.
She stated the man then conducted the "sweet game" in a space of five children.
